Recipe Notes

Kale is considered to be one of the most nutritious vegetables out there, with extremely powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. In particular it contains sulfur phytonutrients called sulforaphanes which are a potent cancer fighter. Kale contains high doses of vitamins A, E, and K, and is packed with over 45 antioxidants! It also helps support the body’s detoxification process which is essential to keep your immune system healthy.

Tahini, made from ground sesame seeds, is high in immune boosting B vitamins and zinc. It also happens to increase white blood cells in your body, making it an awesome defense against the flu. Tahini is high in iron and calcium, among other vitamins and minerals. The best part, it tastes amazing!

Garlic is probably one of the best foods to eat to prevent you from getting sick as well as to treat yourself if you happen to be fighting something. In fact, one of the best (but hardest) home remedies for colds is to eat raw garlic. One of the benefits of using garlic in recipes is that you’re getting the healing properties without the pain of trying to stomach it on its own. Garlic is packed with antibacterial and antiviral properties. It kills bacteria, viruses, yeast, fungi, and even worms. Bacteria doesn’t stand a chance against raw garlic.

Nutritional yeast is what gives many recipes a “cheesy flavor.” It is a great alternative to cheese for vegans, and also happens to be really good for you. Nutritional yeast is a source of B12 which has many amazing functions, and also plays an important role in fighting off germs and other nasty organisms in the body.

Lemon is something everyone should consume every day. It is extremely alkalizing and contains loads of vitamin C. There is nothing better than a good dose of vitamin C to boost your immunity. Lemon has antiviral, antiseptic, and antimicrobial properties.
